Carson J. Tucker Named 2017 Volunteer of the Year for Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC)

Proud to have been selected for the 2017 Michigan Defense Trial Counsel Volunteer of the Year Award.

In addition to the amicus curiae briefs and work I have done for MDTC, 2017 was an amazing year for my other volunteer amicus curiae work – having authored the friend of the court brief in Howell v. Howell in support of military veterans in the United States Supreme Court case of Howell v. Howell for Veterans of Foreign Wars and Operation Firing for Effect, in which the Court followed the arguments in my brief and overturned decades of bad state-law precedent, as well as my other volunteer efforts in addressing members of Congress, federal administrative and executive agencies, and state courts as to the effects of Howell on state and federal law concerning veterans’ disability benefits.

I was also honored to present a national Webinar for the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) on the latest legal issues in municipal liability law under the U.S. Constitution and federal legislation under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Title 42 United States Code, §§ 1981, et seq., covering my familiarity and expertise on the many diverse questions that arise in this ever-changing and dynamic area of the law, which I continue to address for various governmental entities, private corporations, and non-profit organizations.
